Puli Sadam/Puliyodarai/Tamarind Rice Recipe

Chana dal
Puli Sadam/Puliyodarai/Tamarind Rice

Tamarind Rice:

Ingredients:-


Grind item Masala P
owder:
1 tsp coriander seed/dhania seeds
1 tsp chana dal/split bengal gram
1 tsp urad dal/split black lentils
2 -3 dry red chillies, broken into pieces                                        
Urad dal

2 tsp sesame seeds 


 Method:
  • Heat a small pan, dry roast all the ingredients on a slow flame till they turn golden brown in colour, then Keep aside till cool. 
  • Then blend in a mixer to a fine powder.

For Cooking:
1 tbsp gingelly oil/sesame oil
Few curry leaves
Asafoetida/hing
1 tbsp peanuts
1/2 tsp chana dal /split bengal gram
1/2 tsp urad dal/split black lentils
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 cup tamarind extract
 2 1/2 cups cooked rice/ leftover rice
 salt to taste


Method:
  • Heat the oil, add the peanuts and stir till they turn light pink in colour. 
  • Add the chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, Asafoetida and turmeric powder, saute on a medium flame for a minute. 
  • Add the tamarind extract, mix well and cook till the mixture thickens. 
  • Then add the Grind Masala powder, cooked rice and salt and mix till combined well.
