Sundakkai Kootu / Turkey Berry Gravy Recipe

Sundakkai also called as turkey berry/pea egg plant/ pea aubergine/wild egg plant is known for its amazing health benefits. It has bitterness. Bitterness good for health, It will cleanse the body and stimulates metabolism.

  Ingredients:
  • Moong dal/bean-1 cup
  • Green sundakkai-1 cup
  • Ghee/ Butter/ Oil-1 tbsp
  • Tomato small -1
  • Water-1 cup (can be adjusted)
  • Tamarind extract-1/2 cup 
  • Turmeric powder-a pinch
  • Sambar powder-2 tsp
  • Salt as per your taste

  Tempering:
  • Cumin seed -½ tsp
  • Mustard seed -¼ tsp
  • Asafetida -a pinch
  • Red chilly-1
  • Curry leaves-a few
In recipe the bitterness had been reduced by using extracted tamarind water. Best companion is to eat with White rice.
